When I look at these four words, luck, opportunity, skill, hard work, it's hard to rank them of which is most important. I'd have to say though that in order from most important to least important, I would say, hard work, skill, opportunity, and luck. The reason being is because before you can have all of the opportunities and luck and skill, you have to put in the hard work. Everything you do, you need to work hard. For example, I wanted to learn how to play the guitar but I wasn't going to just pick up a guitar and immediately be able to play. After my lesson, I learned how to play four chords and for hours, I would play those four chords over and over again until I got them perfectly or until my fingers bled. The next day, I would do the same thing until after about a week, I could play G C D Em perfectly and in any progression. I didn't just pick up a guitar and play maybe once or twice a week, I picked it up everyday and worked hard to just get comfortable with the fretboard. Because of that one week, it became a habit to play the guitar everyday for at least an hour and with that hard work, I created for myself a skill. I played so much that finally an opportunity came around where I could play and do what I love in front of people. I started working even harder to train my ear better and learn new theories with guitar playing and I became one of the acoustic guitarists at my church because of that hard work. Now, I'm lucky enough that I get to play in front of thousands of people but it could never have happened without the hard work in the beginning. Some people ask me to teach them how to play guitar and my only response is, "Are you willing to practice a lot?" You don't just get things because you deserve them, you have to earn them through hard work. My dad always says when we're working out, "If it was easy, everyone would do it."
