Reconstruction Research

Reflection:

I enjoyed looking at and reading the newspapers because they gave an insight to what everyone thought about Reconstruction. It was interesting to see the different points of view and to see the different opinions. I also thought it was interesting to see the vocabulary that people would use normally.

Why did Reconstruction come to an end in 1877?

I think reconstruction ended because everyone had given up at that point. The 15th Amendment had been passed and all was well but there was still conflict between races and political parties. I think that the Republicans just became tired and gave up fighting and arguing so Reconstruction ended.
"Reconstruction ended because the Republicans given up the fight for racial equality in the South. In 1877, the last federal troops were withdrawn from the South resulting in Republican governments collapsing, ultimately ending Reconstruction."
