Summary of Review on 12 Years a Slave - Rolling Stone Review

Upon reading this review, I concluded that it is just as raw as the movie through word choice and tone. The author of the review, Peter Travers, states that when you watch the movie you don't just see it, you become a part of it. "You don’t just watch 12 Years a Slave. You bleed with it, share its immediacy and feel the wounds that may be beyond healing." Travers also brings up other films and TV series such as Django, Roots, and Gone With The Wind, that are about slavery but nothing compares to the rawness and intensity of this movie. Travers talks a lot about the director and how he effectively placed us into the movie unlike the other films and TV series mentioned before. The audience really gets immersed into the film because of the author's outstanding work. "Proving himself a world-class director, McQueen basically makes slaves of us all. It hurts to watch it."
